Chatrapathi’ flashes on mind’s screen many a time while watching this film. The mother sentiment and the thematic characters are shown in similar manner. On a whole it is a film with overdose of sentiment with enough action sequences and entertaining comedy tracks.
Story: Eswar Prasad (Prabhas) is the son of Kolatam Rama Murthy (Chalapathi Rao) and Sathamma (Sarada) who lives in a village. Prasad lives in the shadow of his mother’s love without doing any work. His father Rama Murthy dies of a disease and Prasad leaves for City in search of job without informing his mother. Mother Santhamma comes to the city in search of her son.
Eswar is innocent but wild, generous for the good and unscrupulous for the bad. He stands as leader for labor and confronts the dadas like Saidulu (Subba Raju) and his boss (Kota). People start calling him ‘Yogi’.
Nayantara played the role of a Journalism student and her contribution to the story is very less.
Rest of the theme goes with the iota of suspense whether the son and mother unite.
Performances
Prabhas is muscular and looked energetic. He excelled in portraying rebellion role blended with sentimental fervor. Especially, he deserves a grand mention for his performance in the climax shot. His dance for the song ‘Orori Yogi..’. is novel. But still he needs to groom further in the matter of dance. Many of his steps appear routine and stereotyped.
Nayantara is slim and slender. She is only for glamour treat and nothing more. Although she has a character, that’s not very well in tune with the need.
Sarada did well as Prabhas’ mother. But her voice appeared rugged than before.
Comedy track of Venu madhav, Sunil, MS Narayana and Ali gave great relief for the audiences. Venu Madhav’s imitation of Rajni Kanth from ‘Chadramukhi’ brought loads of laughs in theaters. Similarly Sunil’s split personality episode is also good. MS Narayana’s guest role as doctor also spills laughs.
Sound effects are fine and music is reasonably striking.
Mumaith Khan’s ‘Orori Yogi..’ rocked the theaters and the choreography for this song is impressive.
Direction:
VV Vinayak wobbled a little in maintaining the tempo of the film. Sometimes, a fight, a song, a comedy scene and a sentiment line go one by one, giving an impression of outdated treatment. Still, there are a few scenes to recall:
Prabhas killing a hooligan with a single punch on his backbone.
Maintaining the sentimental depth in the last 30 minutes of second half.
Prabhas’ performance in climax
Symbolic metaphorical sentiment shot when Prabhas keeps Vibhuti, left by his mother, on his chest.
Prabhs’ instant reaction when Subba Raju takes the name of his mother while scolding him.
Rajni Kanth episode of Venu Madhav.
.
Music:
Ramana Gogula’s music is okay and especially the song ‘Nee Illu..’ scored good. ‘Orori Yogi’ and ‘Ye Nomu Nochindo..’ are straight away picked from Kannada ‘Jogi’. Ramana Gogula appeared for a while before the song ‘Orori..’ Suresh Krishnan, the disciple of Jesudas brought life for the sentimental song that rolls on screen before the climax.
Analysis:
The first half of the film runs with comedy, action and sentiment while second half goes with action mixed with overdose of sentiment. Last 30 minutes of the film grabs the attention of audiences. But still, on a whole, the film cannot be called a great entertainer as no suspense is maintained and entire narration has gone flat. Comedy is good, although grooved in separate track.
The scene that Prabhas dancing with his mother didn’t elevate any sentimental fervor but killed the tempo and interest levels of audiences.
The climax is out of routine and that speaks the novelty in this film. Last 30 minutes goes in a moving way squeezing the hearts.
